A hosting company is one that hosts a website for you or some company. All the web pages that you would visit at the host would be on their servers.

When you type in a URL, such as http://www.mywayne.info, you are directed to the opening page of the website. All websites sit on a server, the function of which amongst other things, is to serve pages to whomsoever requests a page - the requestor is called a client.

AT&T would charge for this service, as would any other hosting company.

When you lease "static ip's" you are actually hosting your own websites and simply using a "dedicated line" that allows access to the internet. There should be no hosting charges because they are not hosting anything but merely providing the conduit to the internet.

AT&T, in their attempt to nickle-and-dime the public, charges for a service they do not provide - hosting - when leasing static ip's. It's used to be $20 per month or $240 per year.

Trying to put in a "ticket" for having the charge removed is nothing but smoke and mirrors because the result is the same - the charge is correct. Nonesense.

It's another Bad Business Practice brought to you through the courtesy of AT&T.
